Glass Types
Premium clear:
This is standard glass, but is a step above window glass in that it is
optically clear and free of defects. It comes in a 2 mm and then a 2.5 mm thickness. It's a good choice where
economy is paramount, and conservation is not a consideration. It does not meet the minimum standards for UV
protection.
Features:
· Blocks up to 45% of UV light
· Allows over 90% of light transmission
and less than 8% light reflection
· 2mm or 2.5 mm glass
substrate
Conservation clear:
If
your artwork is in a room that does not have a lot of windows or multiple lights, conservation clear is a good
choice. It exceeds the minimum standards for UV protection, while maintaining a reasonable
price.
Features:
· Blocks up to 99% of UV light rays
· Meets ISO 18902 and passes ISO
18916, by providing at least 97% UV protection
· Does not degrade or delaminate
over time. Conservation clear uses a proprietary inorganic, silica-based UV blocking coating, which is "baked" into
the glass substrate producing a permanently bonded coating.
· 2.5mm glass
substrate
Ultra-vue:
Ultra-vue glass is my personal favorite. This glass is a major step
forward in picture framing glass. Unlike anti-glare glass that is sandblasted on the back, which effects
sharpness, this glass has a specialty antireflective coating that makes it looks like it’s not there!. I have
seen many people touch the glass just to confirm it is in fact there! It works especially well on darker
colored matting and art.
If you want to see your artwork, and not the glass, as well as not
break the bank, this is your glass of choice. Another plus is if don't want the colors of your artwork
changing, the iron is removed from this glass, which give this glass a water white
appearence.
Features:
- Anti-reflective
- 65% UV
protection
- Anti-static
- Scratch
resistant
- Less than 1%
light reflection
- 98.5% light
transmission
- 2.0mm water
white glass substrate
Museum glass:
For the ultimate in protection, while still maintaining all of the
antiglare properties of Ultra-vue, there simply is no better glass on the market then Museum
glass.
